About yesterday

I understand some might be angry with yesterday's post, but sometimes we need to take opinions that run counter to the predominate public sentiment. It's certainly not a new idea to sign Barry Bonds, but it is an especially important issue to address now, given the flatness of the offense lately. Nevertheless, the idea seems to be gaining some attention this morning. Inside STL has an article up. STLToday has some discussion. A Fanpost has been created at Viva El Birdos. It wouldn't be surprising to see a Bernie Miklasz article spring up. The point of all this is maybe Barry Bonds isn't as radical of an idea as he seems at first. Where else are you going to find an impact bat without sacrificing the future of this team? Where else are you going to find any impact acquisition without sacrificing the future of this team? I highly encourage you to read up on some opinions of this topic and add your insight on yesterday's post, even if it's why we shouldn't look at Bonds. What's baseball without a little bit of controversy here and there? What's the hot stove season without a crazy idea thrown out of left field (literally)? Your opinion's are welcome here, even if they disagree with mine.

If there's something that we all can accept, it's that our offense looks terrible right now. The Cardinals have fallen out of first place in the team walks department and are in danger of falling into third. With runners in scoring position, the team is batting .258 - good enough for 18th place in the entire MLB - and slugging a mere .398. The offensive drain seems to be coming from Ryan Ludwick's reversion to mortal status (.283/.361/.569), the black hole that is Cesar Izturis (.239/.313/.307), Brendan Ryan's awful hitting (.252/.293/.297), and Chris Duncan's power outage (6 homers, .366 SLG). How do you fix that problem? Right now we have three legitimate sluggers (Albert Pujols, Ankiel, Ludwick) and one streaky one (Troy Glaus) and a weak-hitting rest of the team. I'm certain that a much-needed break will rejuvenate this team somewhat, but how long before we fall into the same offensive slump? Something needs to be done while this season is still in reach.

  1. I'm not sure it will help the Cardinals offense much ... all they have to do is walk Bonds (like they do Albert) ... there is not much fear in putting guys on base because the other teams know we can't drive them in anyway.
We have the best pitching coach in baseball so I would rather have the Cardinals give Dunc more bullets to work with.

  2. You'll never please everyone.. Write what you want!!! Im just not a fan of Big Head Barry and the Monsters. But, I will say that if Im picking between C.Duncan and Barry, then give Barry a shot. I cringe with every fly ball hit to Big Leage Chew.
