Quick Hits: UCB, Parisi, Walks

In case you missed it, the United Cardinals Bloggers progressive blog covered Saturday's game and went pretty smoothly for the most part. It was a pretty cool idea; I just wish we had a better game to write about... but...

The Cards won yesterday, win number 20 for the season. Good stuff on ground balls at Viva El Birdos. I don't know how Brent Lillibridge would be able to solve that problem, grounding out 52% of the time this year, but Sean Rodriguez and Khalil Greene would be able to add some much needed pop and line drives to the lineup. Speaking of which...

There were quite a few moves made yesterday that led some to believe that there might be a trade in the works. It turns out that Joel Pineiro could miss his start today and a spot starter could be needed, which is why Mike Parisi was promoted from Memphis yesterday and Anthony Reyes was sent down. In addition, Jess Todd and Tyler Herron were promoted to Springfield and P.J. Walters made a spot start in Memphis. Reyes very well could be on his way out, though, as the recent scouting of the Braves and Angels indicates.

The Cardinals are now at 156 walks for the season, a pace that would put them at 789 at the end of the year. Albert Pujols, at 33 walks, is still continuing his Bonds-ian 23.7% walk rate. Rick Ankiel, surprisingly, is walking 12% of the time with 15 walks, and, perhaps most impressive of the lot, Skip Schumaker has 14 walks for a 10.9% walk rate. That work with Mark McGwire must be paying off...

Remember to check in with FanHome for more Cardinals discussion, especially the Cardinals Bio Central, which has bios on all of the notable players in the Cardinals organization, including the minor leagues.
