Our Best Lineup

Yesterday brought us a lineup that, in my opinion, could be our best yet:
  1. Brendan Ryan, 2B
  2. Rick Ankiel, CF
  3. Albert Pujols, 1B
  4. Ryan Ludwick, RF
  5. Troy Glaus, 3B
  6. Yadier Molina, C
  7. Brian Barton, LF
  8. Pitcher
  9. Cesar Izturis, SS
It presents a solid 1-9 with run-scoring potential at the top and bottom of the order. I fear that Tony will only use this group of players against a lefthanded starter, which would be a shame. Brendan Ryan is our best option at second base right now, and Brian Barton is showing that increased playing time is all he really needed to heat up again. If we wanted to use a similar lineup against a righthanded starter, Barton could be switched for Skip Schumaker and Brendan could take the 7-spot in the lineup. You lose speed and a bit of power all for the sake of a righty-lefty match-up, but I have a feeling Tony wouldn't want it any other way. At the very least, Adam Kennedy, Chris Duncan, and Aaron Miles should find their way into the starting lineup as few times as possible. We saw the results of having a solid lineup in place last night, and, coupled with a great start by Adam Wainwright, it made for a great game against the Astros.

Next week, I will be unable to post here at Rockin' the Red, but I have preset several posts throughout the week to make stopping here worthwhile. Remember to stop by the FanHome Cardinals board for more daily Cardinals discussion and visit the Cardinals Bio Central for information on all players in the organization. Have a great week and go Cardinals!
