The 18th, in fact, in April, a Cardinals franchise record for the month. It still seems inconceivable to fathom a 18-win month, especially at the beginning of the season, when injuries were (hopefully) at their worst and the rotation was still a rag-tag group. Not anymore, I suppose. Although Wellemeyer, Looper (who pitched very well today), and Pineiro have their flaws as 3 through 5 guys, the results from the rotation as a whole have been outstanding. They've definitely been catalysts for the most successful April in club history.
I'm sorry for the infrequency of posting over the past week. The last week of school is next week, and this is the time that profs usually pile stuff on. I'll definitely have more to show tomorrow, as well as throughout the next week. Finals won't be bad this time around, which'll leave enough time for Cardinals baseball.
One steaming hot rumor to pass along: the Padres are in the market again for an outfielder, a center fielder to be specific. Seems that they'd like to get a long-term solution post-Edmonds. We were one step ahead of them, eh? Khalil Greene is coming up in conversations, although it's hard to believe they'd be willing to trade a guy who wants to be there and has a very reasonable contract: $4.5 million this year and $6.5 million in 2009. He's batting .223/.276/.291 in 103 AB this year with a big ol' goose egg in the home run column. It's tough for me to get excited about his lackluster on-base skills, but he definitely would be an upgrade in the power department. I'll monitor this one as it goes.
