First Round of Non-tenders In

As of 10:37 PM Wednesday night, the non-tender list is looking pretty interesting. Although no Aaron Miles has showed up yet, the names being cut should definitely be on the Cardinals radar: SS Adam Everett, 3B Dallas McPherson, SP Chad Durbin, OF Kevin Mench, SP Mark Hendrickson, SP/RP Mark Prior, SP Heath Phillips, SP/RP Jack Cassel, RP Kiko Calero, and 3B Morgan Ensberg. The Cards have a chance to reclaim 1/3 of their deal with Oakland by signing Kiko; too bad Daric Barton wasn't up for grabs. Dallas McPherson could end up being the next best thing to my calls for Andy LaRoche. Adam Everett provides Izturis-esque offense with an even better glove, but we could be finding some redundancy here. Cassel and Phillips are intriguing arms for AAA, and Prior is still Prior. Tomorrow should be a big day with the final list of non-tenders and the Mitchell Report.

  1. I'd sign Prior to a two year deal, since you know he won't contribute to the second half of the season.

Imagine Carpenter, Prior, Wainwright in '09. Lots of ifs, but that could be dominant. Especially if they went out and got another FA pitcher next year.

  2. The Cubs have been imagining a Zambrano, Prior, Wood rotation for quite some time now.

I just don't think the money it would take to get him would be worth the risk.
