Are we a match with SF?

Yesterday, the interesting topic of a trade with the San Francisco Giants for one of their 3 starters came up at Viva El Birdos. The case was made that Chris Duncan could be the centerpiece of a package for one of Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum, or Noah Lowry. The deal really does make sense for both teams, as the Giants are looking for young, cheap options to play first base and the Cards obviously would like to have a front-line starter. Although Matt Cain is more proven, I think Tim Lincecum would make the most sense for the Cardinals. He gets more ground balls and also is a power pitcher, with a 9.23 K/9 for 2007. I would propose a deal of Chris Duncan, Anthony Reyes, and Bryan Anderson for Lincecum. I honestly do not know why the Giants would turn down that deal. It solves the starting rotation for years to come for the Cardinals and potentially fills 3 holes for the Giants. Do you think that's too much? Not enough?

Side note: Giants second baseman Kevin Frandsen has had a career pretty similar to Cards prospect Jarrett Hoffpauir. Bill James has Frandsen at a .282/.330/.407 line for 2008. Maybe there's hope that Jarrett could be an asset to the big league club after all.

  2. Believe me, if the Giants wanted Chris Duncan for Tim Lincecum straight-up, we'd do it in a heartbeat. Lincecum is going to be a star in the National League.

  3. What about trading Rolen, moving Albert back to third base where he started and moving Duncan to first, his natural position. Sound crazy?

  4. I'll be honest, that does sound pretty crazy. Pujols is a Gold Glove 1st baseman, and that move would essentially be downgrading defensively at both positions. I would much rather trade Rolen for a third baseman. I admire the creativity though. We need ideas that are outside the box.
