Sunday Tidbits

News for the day (err, night): ex-slugger Albert Pujols has accepted his invitation to compete in the Home Run Derby, and Chris Carpenter had a nice rebound start today, pitching 3 scoreless innings at Palm Beach (A+). The way Rick Ankiel is hitting, I'd give him a crack at the Derby.

I was able to attend the game today and will have a new post tomorrow morning accordingly. I will say this, though: maybe Wellemeyer should just take the Roger Clemens route and pitch 5 scoreless innings before getting lifted for the bullpen. He doesn't have to be overly impressive that way, kind of what it was like today.

In news-that-doesn't-pertain-to-the-Cardinals-but-then-again-it-does, Mark Buerhle re-upped with the White Sox for 4 years. I was not one of the crowd thinking that we actually had a shot at him, but the move does change our gameplan at the deadline quite a bit. There are no longer any hands-down aces moderately available, meaning that the market for middle-of-the-road starters will increase. If it were up to me, I'd forget about picking up another scrub starter and make as hard a push for Brian Roberts as I could. If only it were that simple...

Don't forget to vote on the poll on the right! And to give Ticket City a click while you're at it!
