Back to Baseball

The beginning of the second half gets underway tonight for the Cards, as they travel to Philadelphia looking to hand the Phillies their 10,000 loss and then some in franchise history.

Kip Wells (3-11, 5.92) will make the start tonight against Kyle Kendrick (RHP, 3-0, 4.40). We should thank our lucky stars because this could have been Jamie Moyer's slot. Kip replaces Todd Wellemeyer, who was put on the DL for arm problems. He will be replaced by Andy Cavazos.

Mike Maroth (5-3, 4.90) will start Saturday against All-Star Cole Hamels (LHP, 10-4, 3.72), who is second in the NL with an impressive 124 strikeouts. He is hittable, though: 115 hits allowed in 118 innings. I didn't say he was very hittable.

Adam Wainwright (7-7, 4.66) will make the Sunday start against Adam Eaton (RHP, 8-5, 5.69).
Adam will look to improve upon his solid June 23rd start against the Phillies: 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 hits, 2 K, and 2 BB.

Eckstein was activated, and of course it was Brendan Ryan who was sent down. We should've seen this coming; any time a young guy shows any kind of potential in his replacement stint in the big leagues, Tony is the first to squash his dreams. Unless this means we go after Brian Roberts, I'm none too pleased with this move.

I'll be outta town for the weekend. Enjoy the return of baseball (I know I couldn't live without it)! I'm just glad that stupid La Russa-Pujols soap opera has finally been put to rest.
