Rough first 2 nights for the Cards... It was, however, a reasonably promising outing from Wells, who struck out 7 with 2 earned runs. All I can deduce from the first 2 games of the season - because that's what they are, the first 2 games of the season - is that the weakest component on this team will be the hitting. Even with Pujols, Rolen, Duncan, Edmonds, and all those guys, we are simply too inconsistent to put up big numbers on the scoreboard. I really don't think we have that much less talent than the 2004 offensive powerhouse, but we do have a less consistent group of guys, including some holdovers from that 2004 season - Rolen and Edmonds, namely.
We're back at it tonight, and it's going to be a good one. I'm going to the game, so I will post some observations.
Bad News on the Home Front: Carpenter to miss next start with elbow injury. If Carp were to go down for a month or so, I don't think it would have as big of an impact as losing a Pujols or a Rolen in the lineup. Pitching is the one thing I feel overly confident about, and it would be wise to get Carp healthy for the long haul.
